India July 2026: 416,555 Passenger Vehicles Retailed, the First July Above Four Lakh
India retailed 416,555 passenger vehicles in July 2026, the first time the month has ever cleared four lakh. Electric passenger vehicles grew 83% and held a 7.9% share.
<p>Indian dealers retailed <strong>416,555 passenger vehicles in July 2026</strong>, up <strong>19.13%</strong> on the 349,674 retailed in July 2025, according to the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations, which reads registrations straight from the government Vahan portal (<a href="https://fada.in/images/press-release/16a7445b80cd73FADA%20Releases%20July%202026%20Vehicle%20Retail%20Data.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">FADA July 2026 release</a>). It is the first July on record above four lakh units.</p>
<h3>Every category set a July record</h3>
<p>Total vehicle retail across all categories reached <strong>2,591,138 units, up 25.89%</strong>. Two-wheelers led on volume at 1,818,289, up 28.25%. Three-wheelers reached 133,778, up 16.16%. Commercial vehicles hit 99,666, up 24.04%. Tractors reached 117,349, up 28.10% (<a href="https://www.storyboard18.com/how-it-works/indias-auto-retail-logs-record-july-as-vehicle-registrations-climb-25-89-fada-ws-l-106883.htm" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Storyboard18 corroboration</a>). All six major categories posting their best-ever July at once is rare, and it points at a broad demand recovery rather than one segment carrying the number.</p>
<h3>Retail against dispatch</h3>
<p>It is worth being precise about which number this is. FADA counts vehicles actually registered by buyers. SIAM, the manufacturers' body, counts dispatches from factory to dealer, and reported 457,810 passenger vehicles for the same month. Dispatch figures tell you what factories produced. <h3>Electric passenger vehicles up 83%</h3>
<p>Electric passenger vehicle retail grew <strong>83%</strong> year on year and held a <strong>7.9% share</strong> of the segment, flat on June but well above the 5.1% recorded in July 2025. Across all categories, EV retail set a record 327,901 units, up more than 66%, with electric two-wheelers clearing two lakh for the first time and electric three-wheelers taking a 65.1% share of their category.</p>
<h3>Seven months: 2,985,741 passenger vehicles</h3>
