<p>Japan's combined new vehicle market, registered cars from the Japan Automobile Dealers Association plus kei minivehicles from the Zenkeijikyo federation, reached <strong>307,374 units in August 2026</strong>, up <strong>2.0%</strong> year on year, according to the MarkLines monthly aggregation of both bodies' releases.</p>
<h3>A steady month, not a standout one</h3>
<p>A 2.0% gain keeps Japan on the same gentle growth path it has held through most of 2026, well short of the double-digit swings seen in the UK or Germany this year. The country's structural difference explains why: roughly a third of the Japanese market is the kei minivehicle class, a regulatory category capped on size and engine power that does not exist anywhere else AutoNergy tracks, and that segment moves on its own, steadier rhythm.</p>
<h3>What is not yet broken out</h3>
<p>Unlike prior months, the registered-vehicle and kei splits for August were not independently available from a second source at the time of writing, so this update carries the combined total only. The split will be added once JADA and Zenkeijikyo publish their individual August prints.</p>
<h3>The lowest electric share in the panel, still</h3>
