KBA press release pm35/2026 (published 03/09/2026) reports 212,563 new passenger cars in August, up 2.6% year on year, and 1,965,024 cumulative registrations for January to August, up 4.8%, which reconciles exactly with the sum of the published monthly series. Battery-electric registrations were 68,930 in August, up 75.1% year on year, a record 32.4% share, the first month above 32%. Plug-in hybrids were 25,406 (12.0%); petrol fell to 16.7% and diesel to 10.6%. SUVs were the largest body type at 37.6%. electrive.net independently corroborates the BEV count and share. by_make, by_engine_type and the other by_* arrays remain the last reconciled cumulative breakdown and are not restated as August-only data.
