August battery-electric registrations were 28,063, a 29.8% monthly share and up 27.7% year on year, the second-highest monthly BEV share of 2026; SMMT attributes part of the spike to low August volume amplifying percentage shifts, a seasonal pattern seen every August since 2023. Plug-in hybrids were 13,707 (14.5%), hybrids 11,940 (12.7%), petrol 36,048 (38.3%), diesel 4,478 (4.8%). Year to date BEVs stand at 355,746 units and a 25.62% share.
