SUVs and crossovers accounted for approximately 53.5% of all US new vehicle sales in 2025 - a record share, up from 51% in 2024. Combined with pickup trucks (19%), light trucks now represent over 72% of the US market. Sedans continue their long decline, holding just 14.5% of sales.

The Hybrid Crossover Wave
The single biggest segment-mover in 2025 was the hybrid mid-size crossover. RAV4 Hybrid alone took 50%+ of total RAV4 volume, the CR-V Hybrid roughly 40%, and the Tucson Hybrid around 35%. Hybrid powertrains have become a default option in this body style.
