How many new vehicles were sold in Japan in August 2026?

Japan sold 307,374 new vehicles in August 2026, up 2.0% year on year: 203,664 registered vehicles counted by JADA, up 9.1%, plus 103,710 kei minivehicles counted by Zenkeijikyo, down 9.5%. Passenger cars alone were 252,908. From January to August the official total is 3,111,737, made up of 2,010,756 registered vehicles and 1,100,981 kei. Kei cars, Japan's sub-660cc class, are about a third of the market, 35.4% of this year's total, and Suzuki was the largest kei maker in August with 37,429 units. Registered vehicles grew while kei sales fell, so the 2.0% headline hides two markets moving in opposite directions. This dashboard combines JADA registered vehicles and Zenkeijikyo kei data from 2015, with brand share and seasonality. Last verified against both bodies' primary releases on 28 September 2026; September figures are due in early October.
